If the Chinook Sugarbeeters are going to qualify for the Class B State Tournament, it's going to be the hard way.
The Beeters suffered a tough 52-37 first-round loss to the Malta Mustangs on Thursday afternoon at the Northern B Divisional Girls Basketball Tournament in Glasgow.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 15-9 first-quarter lead and steadily built on it to pull away from Chinook.
Roshon Nordlund scored 22 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the M-Ettes. Laramie Schwenke added 14, while Kelly Pankratz chipped in with 10.
Chinook was led by Whitney Lybeck's 11 points.
In other first-round action, the Cut Bank Wolves edged the Wolf Point Wolves 63-62 in overtime. The Conrad Cowboys continued the District 1B's success with 52-42 win over Plentywood. In the final game of the night, had little trouble with the host Scotties, winning 45-34.
