Helen (Nellie) Walsh Goligoski, 95, of Havre died Friday, March 11, 2005, in her city of origin, Havre.
Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held.
Helen was born March 21, 1910, in Havre to Richard P. and Josephine (Waldrip)
Walsh. She was raised and educated in Havre, attending St. Jude's School and graduating from Havre High School. She furthered her education by attending Sacred Heart School of Nursing and completed her registered nurses training.
She married Urban L. Goligoski in Havre, and they had two children. Helen did private-duty nursing for several years, relieving at the same time as night supervisor at the Havre hospital. She was office nurse for a couple of years until World War II, when she was an instructor at Sacred Heart Hospital for one year. She returned then to the hospital to work and became supervisor of obstetrics. In 1956, she left Havre and moved to Las Vegas. After one month in the Clark County Health Department, she became ill and returned home. She again became a private-duty nurse. Her ambition, sincerity and willingness to serve, her sense of humor and the struggle of a working mother all showed her loyalty to organized nursing. She was a member of MSNA since 1932 and worked on district and state committees as district president and on the MSNA Board of Directors. She retired from nursing in 1971.
Helen enjoyed her family, reading and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Urban, in 1991; siblings, Richard Walsh, Laura Herron, James Roy Walsh, Phyllis Inot, Michael J. Walsh and Sybil Turgeon.
Survivors include her daughter, JoAnn Blanchard of Havre; son, Eugene L. (Diane) Goligoski of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Patricia Walsh Omsberg of Cut Bank; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
