"Some old timers find it hard to believe that in most leagues, more bowlers wear baseball caps than bowling shirts!"
The YABA banquet scheduled for April 17 has run into a snag. It seems as though there will be some members at the state meet and would be unable to attend. A new date of Sunday, April 24 at 5 p.m. has been chosen. Parents will be notified by phone before that date. People with questions should contact Chris Drew.
Local keglers traveled to Medicine Hat over the weekend for the 2005 Pepsi Challenge.
Shawn Mariani, Lorin Teske, Brett Antley, Dianne Watson, Kyle Fanning, Gary Hillson, Randy Randolph and Ted Azure made it into the top 24. Shawn placed third, Lorin fourth, and Brett sixth. The rest of the crew included Trish and Paula Keeler, Doug Watson, Cody Thompson, Kathye Etchison, Dana Seidel, Russ Boucher and Ken Erickson. If anyone was missed, sorry. They were having a hard time remembering.
Ladies! Please cash your City Tourney checks before the 21st of this month!
The last I heard, the men approved merging associations. This will not happen at this time since the women did not approve the vote. YABA can do nothing unless the men and women merge.
At our meeting, I was asked about the advantages and disadvantages of merging. I see none one way or the other, but I would like to clear the air as to my position.
In no way did I try to sway the women to vote against this, although I was accused by a man who was not there. This was the women's vote. I did not vote. I personally have no opposition to merging, but see no big advantage by doing it. If and when the women reconsider, this will happen. But for now, it's a dead issue. So to my accuser I suggest: "build a bridge and get over it!"
Women's City finished its season last Tuesday night with the Gallery Lounge taking the top spot. Members of the team are Lana Herman, Carina Pierce, Ann McKnight, and Susie Friede. The Oxford Bar came in second followed by Mariani Insurance and Norman's.
Christie Johnson will celebrate a b-day the 17th and JoAnne Pepin on the 18th.
Ron Turner and Ruth Orr picked 5-10s, Susie Friede and Carina Pierce 6-7s; and Fern Lohse a 5-8-10.
Cindy Luke threw the high game of 211 and Christy Holden the series of 554. Jackie Mayer had a 536 and the rest of us showed up to struggle yet another week.
The men's game of 258 was by Skip Owens and the series of 669 belonged to Dave Wolf. Mike Hamilton had a 243, 602; Chris Young 244, 625; Barry Zanto 243; and Roy Hamilton a 248, 635. "6" shooters were Brett Antley 605; Ryan Mapes 634; Ron Turner 652; Ken Riska 620; and Bill Evans 607.
Ken Riska's 835 was the high four game. Ryan Mapes shot an 833 and Brett Antley a 790.
Teams are going to the state tournaments, so watch for results in the paper. To all going "rip-em-up"! Bowling scores have been up and down here, so I expect everyone to do well there.
There is a six man, winner take all competition this weekend for PBA members. One part will be on Saturday and the finals on Sunday. Check your listings for the times, I'm sure it will be on ESPN.
