Absentee balloting begins for primary

Absentee voting for the Havre primary election begins this week and will continue through Sept. 12.

People may vote in person at the Hill County Clerk and Recorder's Office or request a ballot. Ballots can be requested in person or in writing.

Democrats Gerry Veis and David Brewer will face off for a Ward 1 City Council seat in the primary. The winner of that race will not face an opponent in the Nov. 8 general election.

Written requests for an absentee ballot must be signed by the person who will vote, contain that person's birthdate and a copy of a valid photo identification, including a driver's license, school I.D., tribal photo I.D. or a current utility bill, bank statement, pay check or other government document. The request may include the name of the person who will pick up the ballot or an address where the ballot can be mailed.

Absentee voting will close at noon on Sept. 12.
