A man from Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation died in a car accident on Duck Creek Road on the reservation Tuesday afternoon.

David Joseph Meyers, 19, was a passenger in a car that drifted off the side of the road and struck a tree, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.

Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Bosch said he didn't know what caused the accident, but that speed was not a factor.

The driver, Crystal Rodriguez, 22, of Box Elder, and another passenger, Hilda Santana, 53, of New York City, were taken to Northern Montana Hospital for treatment.

Santana was listed in good condition today at the hospital. Rodriguez was not a patient at the hospital today, hospital spokeswoman Kathie Newell said.

The highway patrol said no one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.

Meyers, known as "Tool Box," liked working on cars and was self-employed as a mechanic in Rocky Boy, his father, David Meyers, said. He enjoyed driving to the mountains to go swimming and hiking.

Meyers said his son helped him around the house, building fences and his brother's trailer house. Meyers enjoyed being with friends, meeting new people and laughing. He also baby-sat his four nieces, his father said.

David Meyers said he and his wife, Shirley Meyers, appreciate everyone's support in their time of need.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
