If you haven't heard by now, you're the only one who hasn't. Hi-Line Lanes is closed - over - kaput - done -
finished - no more.
I received a call from Phil Carter early Tuesday morning stating that they are closing the doors. The lanes will not reopen until the place is sold. After all the years of idle rumors, they are finally true.
We are without a bowling alley.
You must get out there ASAP and clean your lockers out. You will have about a week. When the doors are locked, that's it. He will then have your ball and shoes too.
What makes this kegler so irate is that we were allowed to even start. Cards have been paid for, and I'm sorry to say that money cannot be reimbursed. The league secretaries will be reimbursing you for sponsor fees, prize funds, and extras paid strictly for your league. The bowling lineage - we're stuck.
The women who bowled in the city tourney will get their money; this has nothing to do with the lanes. There are also a lot of women who have earned awards - you will get them. This may take some time, as most league secretaries were not prepared for this.
You read about my “WHAM” team. I guess I'm glad we were unable to finish. We Have A Mission - to clean the dirty place up, and I think we improved it a lot. Gwen Goar, Susie Friede and I spent more than 15 hours and Dianne Watson and Chris Drew about nine hours. Lana Herman and Roxy Mangold also pitched in. We must have been nuts. Very few people noticed, or if they did, they never said anything. Thanks, gals, but I guess we wasted our Sundays.
Results of the tourney are as follows. Normans remained on top of the team event with 2,374. Members are, or were: Denise Brewer, Evie Jordan, Ruth Orr, and Sandy Sutter. Crystal City stayed in second with 2,373, and Independence Bank was third with 2,359.
Malinda Domire and Lisa Morrell were the doubles winners with a score of 1,316. Kim Austin and Tera Verploegen had a 1,290, and Roxy Mangold and Barb DeRosa a 1,242. A 677 by Becky Blake was good for the top spot in the singles. Julie Mariani had a 644, Cindy Turner a 637,and Barb DeRosa a 618. Christy Holden was the scratch all-events winner with a 1,590, and Roxy Mangold was handicap with a 1,835.
Malinda Domire recorded her first ever 500 series during doubles, a 507. Terry Lilletvedt threw a 224, and Cindy Turner and JoAnne Pepin earned game awards.
The participation was pitiful, but those who did bowl made it an enjoyable weekend. To you: Thanks, you're special. Susie Friede, you felt awful, sounded worse, but you were there from start to finish both days. Thanks so much. Thank you also to Chris Drew and Gwen Goar for keeping us entertained and pitching in.
As you might have guessed by now, this will be your last news. I have included Sunday and Monday for this week, but will be omitting the league standings. I wonder why?

I can't thank you all enough for the years you've given me. It's been so much fun writing about you. It seems impossible it has come to an end this way. I can only hope and pray someone out there likes us and will give
