Election judges for the City of Havre general election will open the polls for voting at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
Ward 1 will vote in the Havre High School gym, Ward 2 will vote in the Highland Park Early Primary School Library, Ward 3 will vote in the Montana State University-Northern Student Union Building, and Ward 4 will vote in the Lincoln-McKinley School gym.
The ballot contains contested races for the positions of mayor and city judge, as well as City Council races in Ward 3 and Ward 4. There has been steady absentee voting throughout all four wards and Clerk and Recorder Diane Mellem hopes the voting trend continues through general election day Tuesday.
Absentee voting closes at noon Monday. The polling places will open at 7 a.m. on Tuesday and stay open until 8 p.m. City voters are urged to vote in the election and are reminded to bring identification with them when going to the polls
Only those people registered within the city limits of Havre are eligible to vote on Tuesday.
Inactive voters may now reactivate at the polling place and vote in local elections under a new law that became effective Oct. 1. Therefore, voters are encouraged to call the office of the Clerk and Recorder at 265-5481, ext. 221, 222 or 223, to verify their registration status or inquire into their proper Ward and polling place. The Clerk and Recorder's office is able to access voter information quickly under its computer voter registration system and encourages people to call the Clerk and Recorder's office before going to vote if they have any doubt about status or voting location.
