In honor of National Ground Water Awareness Week, a roundtable discussion about well water will be be held Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Bullhook Clinic meeting room.
Hill County planner and sanitarian Clay Vincent and Hi-Line Drilling Inc. owner and operator Roger Freier will be available to answer the public's questions.
Vincent said “about a couple thousand” wells are located in Hill County. Some are within Havre city limits and most are out of the city limits.
Topics of discussion will include well maintenance, water testing and well drilling.
At the meeting, well water testing kits and informative pamphlets will be available. The kits test for levels of calcium, sodium, copper, lead and also for water hardness.
Vincent said county officials are interested in the results from testing in the different areas of Hill County so that they can compare the tests to those of other parts of the state. If testers are willing to share their findings, the cost of the test will be reimbursed by the county. The kits cost about $30.
If the meeting goes well, more will follow, Vincent said.
