The Havre Ice Hawks Squirts hockey team recently wrapped up a solid season with a second-place finish at the State Squirt B hockey tournament in Billings on March 5.
The Ice Hawks reached the state title game, where they fell to the Billings Jr. Bulls, 4-0. Havre had also lost to the Bulls, 10-0 earlier in the tournament.
Aside from the two losses to Billings, the Ice Hawks shot out Gallatin Valley, 5-0 and thrashed the Helena Big Horns, 6-2. The Ice Hawks also skated to a 3-3 tie with the Bozeman Stingers in the first game of the three-day tourney.
The Ice Hawks also fared well at the prestigious Don James Memorial Squirt Hockey Tournament in Butte in late February. The Ice Hawks went 2-2 during the tournament on their way to earning a second-place trophy.
For the season, the Ice Hawks' USA Hockey League record was a solid 6-5-3. In non-league games Havre was 1-1 against the Helena Big Horns and 1-1 against the Billings Bulls. Havre's win against Billings was the Bulls only loss of the 2005-06 season.
Havre's 2006-06 team included Ned Malone, Kelby McLain, Derek Matosich, Dane Linquist, Zach Hellegaard, Ellery Bresler, Nick Howell, Jon Reece Stoner, Dustin Armstrong, Kyle Konesky, Alex Hanson, Caleb McLain, Trevor Jensen and Lauren Christopher.
