RUDYARD Evelyn Louise “Netes” (Narestad) Langel, 99, of Rudyard died peacefully in the early morning hours on Wednesday, July 19, 2006.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rudyard. Burial will follow at the Rudyard Cemetery. Evelyn was born Feb. 6, 1907, at Iola, Wis., to Thomas and Bessie (Larson) Narestad. Her father came to homestead in Montana in 1912, and the rest of the Narestad family followed in the spring of 1913. They lived on a farm 15 miles northwest of Rudyard. Netes’ father died in 1913. Her mother later married Lawrence Tippie. Netes received her early education at the Oreanna Country School north of Rudyard, then finished her schooling at Rudyard High School, where she graduated in 1927. Netes married Theodore Donald Langel on Jan. 7, 1928, in Havre. They lived and farmed in the Goldstone community, then moved into Rudyard in 1936. Netes worked diligently as a homemaker and mother. The Langel’s retired from farming in 1970. They had been married 62 years when Ted died on Feb 20, 1990 at age 83.
Netes continued to live in Rudyard and remained active in the community until her health failed in 2004. She moved to the Liberty County Nursing Home in Chester. Netes was a longtime member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and W.E.L.C.A. in Rudyard. She had also been active in the Rudyard Garden Club, the senior citizen’s center, and a local bridge club. In their earlier days, Ted and Netes enjoyed traveling or spending weekends at their cabin near Apgar in Glacier National Park. Playing cards, especially bridge, whist and kings in the corner, was a favorite pastime to Netes. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting and sewing. She made and collected many dolls and quilts, most of which she donated to the needy or underprivileged of Havre and surrounding communities. In addition to her many talents, she was an exceptional cook. Netes could best be described as a kind lady with a gentle spirit, a sharp mind, quick wit and a pleasant personality.
In addition to her husband and parents, Netes was preceded in death by an infant son, Donald in 1931; sisters, Frances Evenson and Gertrude VanWechel; and brothers, Millard, Evan, Harvey and Carl Narestad. Survivors include her son, Douglas (Marj) Langel of Rudyard; grandson, Brandon Langel of Los Angeles, Calif.; and numerous nephews and nieces. Arrangements by Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester.
