A haunted maze in the Bigger, Better Barn at the Great Northern Fairgrounds will be open to hauntings tomorrow, Sunday and Halloween nights. The maze is a project of the Bear Paw Beavers 4-H Club with assistance from the Mountain View 4-H. The Mountain View Club is new and working with the maze gives them an opportunity to earn start up funds and gain community service experience. In its third year, the maze is designed, set up and run by club members with the assistance for their parents. Proceeds from last year's maze were used for Christmas gifts for the angel tree, some club supplies and $800 was donated to help 2 individual families who were victims of Hurricane Katrina. The maze is designed to try and accommodate younger children, who may find more intense hauntings too frightening. A 4-H member will accompany the younger children to help keep them reassured. The 4-H club members are very excited about the project and have put out a lot of effort into setting up and running the maze, Sandy Brown said. Two club members designed the original layout, but it is always a work in progress. So ideas that come to mind as they set up will usually be added. The Bear Paw Beavers 4-H club consists of children ranging from 6 to 8 years of age (Cloverbuds) through high school. The maze project provides life skills experience in community service, team work, finances and setting and achieving goals. Maze hours are 5 to 10 p.m. The cost is $2 per person.
