The proposed Havre industrial park planned by the Hill County Commissioners is one step closer to becoming a reality with the completion of a federally required wetlands survey. Now all that really remains is to survey the boundaries of the 30-acre site and purchase the land, which is located on the southbound railroad spur across from Ft. Assiniboine near Highway 87 . “Now the main problem we have to deal with is the weather. We have had the surveyor (Cicon and Associates out of Chester) come out and look the site over, but I can’t venture a guess as to when the survey will be complete,” Hill County Commissioner Mike Anderson said. The industrial site is to be the future new home of Greater Montana Bio Energies bio diesel and lubricants plant along with spin-off industries involved in such things as packaging and shipping the plant’s products, it is hoped. The County has not purchased the land nor have they signed a buy-sell agreement with the two brothers who are selling the land to the county (the land is on two separate farms). In an earlier interview last week Anderson said that Greater Montana is anxious to get started on the plant. “There is no doubt that they want to get started, in fact they are getting a little upset about the pace at which things are progressing,” Anderson said. “They want to start construction right away, as soon as the land is purchased, and are understandably worried about winter coming.” The proposed plant will be somewhat of a boon to the Havre area, providing an alternative crop to spring wheat as well as a number of jobs for the community.
