“Test your memory. Try to remember what bowling problem you were worrying about a year ago today!”
In 1900, top male bowlers wore long-sleeved white shirts and ties when they competed in special matches. Women were covered from neck to ankle, (Lisa Morrell would have been banned from bowling). A good pair of bowling shoes - high tops, similar to today's boxing shoes - cost $2. A bowling ball, made of wood, could be had for $5 or so. The wooden balls wore down and had to be rounded off by expert machinists rather than bowling experts.
About the only thing that is the same nowadays are the excuses given for poor bowling. Those never seem to change, but new ones are always added.
This time last year I would have been telling you all about New Year's Eve Jackpot: how many people were there, how much money was won, and what a great time everybody had. I wonder what those people did this year?
I did talk to a couple of them before that night. They had no idea what they might do. One made the comment that it was like a ritual, a habit. It was the only thing they did to celebrate.
Bowling was the only thing I did all winter. I don't have to worry about my back now, so I can't make up excuses for not doing those awful jobs around the house. Cleaning house really gets old.
YBC in-house qualifying will start this weekend for all YABA bowlers. They have had the last two weekends off but will hit the maples again this weekend. The Traveling League will be at Anaconda's Copper City Bowl this weekend.
