In its final tournament of the 2005-06 hockey season, the Havre Ice Hawks high school hockey team earned a third-place finish in Bozeman. The Ice Hawks went 3-1 at the Bozeman tourney, held this weekend at the Gallatin Valley Ice Arena.
On Friday night the Ice Hawks captured a hard-fought, 4-3 win over Billings Senior to open tournament play. Michael Erickson scored in the first period to give the Ice Hawks the lead. Billings Senior battled back to tie the game at 1-1. Todd Roe scored twice in the second period, and Tyler Boyce scored the game-winning goal with 7:36 left in the third period.
Boyce finished the game with a goal and two assists. Havre goalie David Zentmire stopped 28 shots.
Havre continued its winning ways on Saturday morning as the Ice Hawks defeated the Bozeman Stingers for the third time in a week. The Ice Hawks downed Bozeman 3-1.
Erickson had another solid game for Havre with a goal and an assist. Mason Sheppard and Willy Schilling also scored goals for the Ice Hawks. Zentmire stopped 17 shots in goal.
In the semifinals on Saturday night, the Ice Hawks fell short in their bid to reach the championship game, losing to Gallatin Valley by a score of 7-2.
Both of Havre's goals came in the first period. Boyce scored on an assist from Sheppard, and Scott Ladenburg scored an unassisted goal just as the period ended.
In the consolation game on Sunday morning, Havre bounced back from its loss to Gallatin Valley with a 5-1 win over the same team.
Leading 1-0 in the second period, the Ice Hawks' offense got going with two goals in 31 seconds. The first came from Mark Larson, and Jarrett McLain followed with a goal of his own. The Ice Hawks tacked on two more goals in the third period. Larson scored on an assist from Erickson, and Roe scored an empty-netter near the end of the game. Zentmire saved 18 shots.
Havre will prepare for its final weekend of the regular season when the Ice Hawks visit Missoula this weekend for a doubleheader.
