The Havre High girls tennis team got together with the Chinook Sugarbeeters on Thursday afternoon for the first of two duals between the two teams in 2006.
Team scores were not kept and the two squads played a combined 21 doubles and singles matches.
Havre High's No. 1 singles player Katie Mariani went 2-0 on the day. Mariani defeated Chinook's Georgia Barber, 8-3 and Gen Burkhartsmeyer, 8-2. HHS sophomore Haley McLain also won two singles matches. McLain defeated Rebecca Blankenship 8-6 and Darcie Mohar 8-4. Mohar bounced back to defeat HHS senior Jocelyn Chagnon, 8-4. Blankenship also knocked off Chagnon later in the day.
Chinook also got singles victories from Alisha Unruh, Merylee Ramberg and Sara Harshman. Hope Hedges and Christen Kittelson also notched singles wins for Havre.
In doubles, the Ponies No. 1 tandem of Steph Flatau and Keelie Solomon cruised to an 8-0 victory over Chinook's Morgan Obie and Burkhartsmeyer in their only match of the day. Obie later teamed with Barber to defeat the Ponies' Kari Gorder and Kristi Hollingshead. Gorder and Hollingshead defeated Staci Butcher and Abby Johnson earlier in the dual.
HHS seniors Alexa Lipp and Karissa Olson swept their two matches. Lipp and Olson defeated Harshman and Patti Hellman, 8-4 and the duo also knocked off Butcher and Johnson, 8-2.
Chinook is back in Havre on Saturday when they square off against Fort Benton and Chester/J-I in triangular action. Meanwhile, both the HHS girls and boys teams are on the road at the Conrad Invitational on Saturday.
