Montana State University-Northern Chancellor Alex Capdeville is one of three finalists in the search for a new president at Western Nebraska Community College, the Scottsbluff, Neb., school's Web site said.
Capdeville was interviewed, along with the other two finalists, during the week of April 10, the Web site said.
In a recent interview, Capdeville said he occasionally looks at job openings at other institutions and said he'd recently been considered for a leadership role at a college in Kentucky.
“I've looked at several jobs over the years, as a lot of people do,” he said.
Capdeville, who has headed Northern's administration for six years, said the national average for college leaders to stay in one job is five to seven years.
He said consideration of another position does not show a lack of commitment to Northern. He also said he has not used the school as a “stepping stone.”
He pointed to changes he's made since being named chancellor, including the renovation of older buildings and plans for new structures. He said computers have been replaced on an ongoing basis. He also said he's worked to develop new income streams to improve the university.
