The Havre High track teams are in the midst of what could be the toughest stretch of their season - the Ponies are set to compete Saturday in their second varsity invitational in three days.

On Thursday afternoon in Malta, the HHS boys ran away with the Malta Invitational team title, and the Havre High girls finished second.

The Havre High boys scored 132 points to Glasgow's 69 points to easily capture another Malta Invitational crown. Harlem finished fifth with 50 points and Chinook was 11th with 11 points.

Individually, Havre's Robert Brooks once again swept the distance races. Brooks won both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter races in convincing fashion. Thursday was the second time in a week Brooks swept both races. On Tuesday, Brooks won both races at a dual meet against CMR.

Havre also got wins from Cody McLean in the pole vault and Derek Verploegen in the 400 meters. The HHS relay teams also won both relay races Thursday. The team of Kyle Finneman, Ryan Horne, Kyle Rummel and Verploegen captured the 400-meter relay while Verploegen, Rummel, McLean and Tristan Welter easily won the 1600-meter relay.

On the girls side of things, HHS came up short against host Malta in the overall team race. The M-Ettes scored 144 points while the Ponies scored a very solid 125.5 points. Chinook was sixth with 24 points and Harlem was 10th with four points.

The Blue Pony girls were led in the meet by Casea Pollington, Hannah Wells and Lena Suek. Pollington won the high jump for the fourth time this season and finished second in the pole vault. Wells captured the 100-meter hurdles and took second in the 300-meter hurdles. Suek was also her dominant self Thursday with wins in both the javelin and discus.

Havre also got a dominating win from Carmen Neuens in the long jump. Neuens beat Chinook's Crystal Roseberry, who finished second, by nearly a foot in the event. Roseberry came back to finish third in the triple jump and fourth in the 100 meters.

The Havre High 400-meter relay team also had a good day, finishing first in the race. The team was composed of Kelsey West, Cammie West, Mandy Nystrom and Neuens. Kesley West also finished third for Havre in both the 100 and 200 meters.

Both Havre High track teams will be back on the road Saturday when the Ponies travel to Whitefish for the Whitefish Invitational.
