The Havre Jaycees need Havre's help with making this year's Independence Day fireworks display a great one.

The Havre Jaycees have had dwindling fireworks sales due to increased competition from other vendors, but will continue to sell them this summer. In addition to sales, the Jaycees initiated a letter campaign in an attempt to add bigger, brighter and higher fireworks to the display this year.

Jaycees president Christy Owens said whatever money the Jaycees make from sales at their booth of fireworks to Hi-Line area citizens will go toward the purchase of the evening fireworks show.

“Our display hinges upon what our sales are,” Owens said Tuesday. She added that if the booth makes a lot of money, the fireworks display will be grand. The Jaycees will set up the booth in the Holiday Village Shopping Center parking lot. Owens added the Jaycees hope to sell out the booth this year.

“Help sell out the booth so we can have a fabulous night display,” she said.

In addition to the sales of fireworks, the Jaycees added a letter campaign to their efforts. The May 10 letter said the Jaycees are experiencing difficulty covering the show's cost because of increasing competition. The letter also said the cost of each item for the fireworks display ran between $20 and $150.

“The bigger, brighter and higher the firework goes depends on the price of each firework,” it said.

The letter, Owens said, was sent to area businesses in hopes of achieving another great display.

Anyone can donate to the cause by sending a check made out to the Havre Jaycees and mailed to the Havre Jaycees, Fireworks Display, P.O. Box 1327, Havre, MT 59501.
