Firefighters from the Wild Horse, St. Joe, Kremlin, Gildford and Havre departments responded Sunday night to a wild fire at a farm north of Havre. The blaze burned 200 to 250 acres of grass and CRP land, Wild Horse firefighter Ken Peterson said Monday. “It could have been worse, I guess,” he said. Richard Knapp said he and his wife Laurel weren’t at the farm when the fire broke out. It was reported at 9:50 p.m. Sunday. “I just found out about it, too,” he said Monday. “I haven’t been out to look at it, yet.” Havre firefighters also responded to a structural fire on the 1100 block of 15th Street West at 9:33 p.m. Friday. The fire began in a bedroom, and was contained there, Fire Chief Dave Sheppard said. The occupants caused the fire, he said. “The occupants were looking under the bed with a lighter,” he said. “The bedding caught on fire.” The occupants can continue to live in the mobile home as the damage was only in one room, Sheppard said. He said the Fire Department responded to three other fire calls. Two were false alarms and one turned out to be a broken water line. “That happens a lot,” he said. “Sometimes people don’t know who else to call, so they call us.” The department responded to 13 medical calls over the weekend, and only two didn’t require ambulance transport.
