The temperature was hot enough to soften pavement on Saturday afternoon in Havre. Or just maybe, the pavement got softened by the heat being generated from all of the exciting basketball being played on the streets of downtown Havre. Either way, the Ninth Annual Nothin’ But Net 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Saturday afternoon was as successful as ever, despite temperatures that reached well into the triple digits. The tournament, which is put on every year by the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce, featured five different age groups, with brackets for both boys and girls teams. In the co-ed grades 4-6 bracket, the team Rockets of Box Elder defeated Havre’s Mad Dogs in the championship game. The Rockets are composed of Darien Lafromboise, Welbert Parisian, Leah LaForge and Levi Olson. The second-place Mad Dogs team was made up of Peyton Filius, Zach Hellegaard, Kayla Berg and Micayla Pierson. The girls grades 7-8 championship went to the Red Hot Chili Peppers of Hingham. The Hingham team defeated the Rocky Boy Street Ballers of Box Elder in the title game. The Chili Peppers were made up of Bridjour Han, Taylor Warren, Jordan Spicher and Shelby Lipp, and the Street Ballers were composed of Tennae Singer, Carly Stump, Taneal Sutherland and Talene Russette. In the high school category for girls, Box Elder’s Hickle & Tooke earned first-place honors with a win over Kabosh of Havre. Hickle and Tooke was composed of Rokki Parker, Erin Broncho, Tori Belcourt and Natasha Dyrland. The Havre team featured Steph Stremcha, Katie Mariani, Christina Armstrong and Tricia Samson. On the boys side, the grades 7-8 tournament was earned by HK Ballers of Kremlin. The team, which was made up of Logan Connor, Justin Jensen, Jordy Donoven and Kaiston Donoven defeated the Thunderbirds of Hays in the championship game. The Thunderbirds were composed of Grant Doney, Clifford Black Elk, Taylor First Raised and Taylor Roberts. The boys’ high school championship went to Box Elder’s Native Ballers and second place went to Chinook. The Native Ballers were composed of Mike Sangrey, Glen Doney, Bryant Eagleman and Lenny Grey, and the Chinook team was made up of Marty Birky, Max Hofeldt, Chad Jones and Adam Johnson.
