Radio sportscaster and sports director Ron Bruschi has won the same award seven consecutive years. Again this year, Bruschi missed out on the ceremony due to work but he wouldn’t have it any other way. “They have the awards every fall. Nine times out of 10, I have a football game, which is fine by me. I have the best job in the world,” Bruschi said Tuesday. The awards were given out on a night when he was covering the Montana State University- Northern Lights on their Havre field for New Media Broadcasters. Bruschi received the Best Radio Sports Coverage honors at the Joe Durso Awards for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism for the seventh consecutive year. The awards are in their eighth year. The recognitions are in honor of Joe Durso Jr., a longtime broadcast journalism professor at University of Montana who died in 1998. Awards were bestowed by the Montana Associated Press Broadcasters Association at its annual meeting in Bozeman Saturday. Bruschi said he would not have been disappointed if he had not one again. He doesn’t do it for the acclamation. “I have a great opportunity with my job. I love it. I won’t do anything else,” he said. The multiple award winner has been covering local sports for the Havre radio station for a decade. Originally from western Pennsylvania, Bruschi ventured west to Great Falls for a sportscaster gig in the late ’80s. His favorite part of the job is getting the know the athletes and coaches, also the atmosphere “all of it,” he said. Bruschi knows his surroundings well because he was a wrestler and football player in high school and continued as a grappler in college. He has nothing but kind and enthusiastic words about his career and his employer. “The reason I have accomplished so much is because of the wonderful organization I work for,” Bruschi said.
