A car struck by a train at a crossing 2.9 miles east of Havre Saturday afternoon sent the driver of the car to Northern Montana Hospital for treatment of injuries, according to a Montana Highway Patrol report. Mike Dobrenz, 32, of Havre was driving a 2006 Ford Mustang southbound emerging from a private approach about 3:10 p.m. Saturday, the report said. According to the report, Dobrenz’ intention was to go over the railroad crossing and then turn onto US Highway 2. A westbound Amtrak train collided with the driver’s side of Dobrenz’ car. The car was pushed into the ditch on the north side of the approach, the patrol report said. Dobrenz was cited for failing to stop at a railroad crossing when the stop signs were active. Dobrenz was transported to Northern Montana Hospital, but telephone calls to the hospital public information office were not returned before publication this morning. A phone message left this morning with an Amtrak spokes office also was not return.
