The Chippewa Cree Tribe of the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation is holding its Christmas Pow Wow tonight and tomorrow. The event will feature drumming, gaming and dancing and even a visit from Santa Claus on Saturday. There will also be a special honoring/giveaway event tonight to honor Marci Lynn Buckman, the daughter of Cheryl Windy Boy. Buckman is home from Iraq on leave from the Army to attend her grandmother’s funeral, but will still have to miss a stateside Christmas, as she has to fly back Saturday. The grand entries for dancers are scheduled for 7 tonight and 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday in the Rocky Boy High School Gym. Cash prizes will be awarded in adult, teen and junior categories for traditional, fancy, grass, jingle and chicken dances; as well as men’s and women’s golden age classes. Emcees at the event will be Eric Tootoosis and Charlie Tailfeathers. Arena directors are Wesley Windy Boy and R. G. Harris. The head dancers are Dustin Whitford and Grace Her Many Horses. The host drum is the Southern Cree Tribe and the head dancing judge is Paul Russette, Jr. There will also be a handgame tournament with a total payout of $10,000 plus entry fees. Entry is $100 per team. Lodging is available, and anyone needing more information can call Richard Sangrey or Janice Meyers at (406) 395-4478
