The Havre Ice Hawks high school hockey team wrapped up its regular season this weekend in Missoula with a pair of easy victories over the Missoula Bruins.
On Saturday afternoon, the Ice Hawks defeated the Bruins 4-1 behind 33 saves from goalie David Zentmire.
Havre got off to a good start, scoring two goals in the first period. The first goal came almost eight minutes into the game when Scott Ladenburg scored on an assist from Michael Erickson and Mark Larson. Less than two minutes later, Havre found the net again, this time on a shot from Tyler Boyce. Todd Roe assisted Boyce's goal.
Havre also put two insurance goals on the board in the second period. Austin Small scored on another assist from the tandem of Erickson and Larson. Mason Sheppard rounded out the scoring on a goal that was assisted by Roe.
On Sunday, the Ice Hawks put the finishing touches on a solid regular season with a 3-0 win over the Bruins. Zentmire was brilliant between the pipes, stopping 45 Missoula shots on his way to the shutout.
Offensively, Havre again got off to a good start by striking twice in the first period. Boyce scored halfway through the period on an assist from Roe. Boyce's shorthanded goal came during a Missoula power play. Ladenburg also scored in the first period.
Havre went scoreless in the second period, but Roe finished Missoula off in the third with a power play goal on an assist from Sheppard.
The weekend sweep of Missoula gave Havre a 15-10-2 overall record. The Ice Hawks will have this week to prepare for the upcoming Montana High School state tournament. The state tournament will be held March 2-5 in Miles City.
