DODSON Leslie Edwin “Killer” Kill Eagle, 75, a rancher, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at a Billings hospital of natural causes.
His wake service will begin at 7 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dodson. His funeral Mass will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at the Dodson High School Gym. Burial will be in the Ereaux Family Cemetery at Dodson. Les was born Feb. 10, 1931, at Fort Belknap Agency and was raised in the Lodge Pole area. He went to the Kirkaldie School in Lodge Pole and also attended VoTech at Northern Montana College, studying auto mechanics. He was a member of the Montana National Guard in Havre and Malta for nine years. Les married Sarah Fox on Oct. 16, 1953, at Malta. Les was affectionately known as “Killer” and worked seasonally for Indian Health Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and nine years with the railroad. He retired in 1996 and continued to ranch west of Dodson. He was well known for his auto dealings throughout the years. Killer could always be seen with a smile, wave and a twinkle in his eye. He loved all his grandchildren equally and was proud of all of their accomplishments. He followed all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in sports and other activities. He was an avid Dodson Coyote fan and in 2005 basketball season, Killer beamed because he had a grandson (Clayton) and a greatgrandson (Thomas) on the Dodson Coyote team. As the years and great-grandchildren sprung upon him, the family changed his name from Killer to just Grandpa. Even his wife, Sarah, called him Grandpa. Les loved to tease, for which he had a great gift. Les spoke the Assiniboine Indian language fluently and enjoyed speaking the language with the elders of Fort Belknap. Les and Sarah just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. Les was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lucille Kill Eagle; biological parents, Agnes Doney and Joe Trottier; and infant son, William Edwin Kill Eagle. Survivors include his wife, Sarah of Dodson; children, Frances (Milton) Werk of Dodson, Rebecca “Bea” (Jimmy) Clark of Reno, Nev., Debra (Justin) Rasmussen of Dodson, Wes (Iris) Kill Eagle of Dodson, John Kill Eagle of Butte, Joe (Valerie) Kill Eagle of Dodson and Mona (Kenneth Jr.) Wing of Lodge Pole; sister, Betty of Missoula; six grandsons; 13 granddaughters; 15 great-grandsons; eight great-granddaughters; adopted daughters, Verna First Chief and Linda Bell; and adopted son, Ivan Wing. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
