Havre High senior serves in the House

HELENA

As the Montana Legislature enters the second week of the 2007 Session, Rep. Bob Bergren, D-Havre, will receive some extra help from Havre High School student Carmen Neuens. Neuens was selected to serve as Bergren’s 2007 legislative page. She will spend this week in Helena assisting Bergren and learning about the legislative process. The Legislature’s page program offers opportunities to high school, college and career people to be part of the process. Each representative is allowed one page per session. Pages serve a one-week term in Helena, during which they help organize floor sessions, deliver messages to legislators, and work directly with the representatives who are sponsoring them. “I’m excited to have Carmen assisting as a page this session,” Bergren said. “It’s important for students from across Montana to have the opportunity to learn how state government functions.” Neuens is a senior at Havre High School. She plans to attend Montana State University in Bozeman next year. “I’ve always had an interest in government, so it’s exciting to work here”, said Neuens. When asked how her first day on the job was Neuens said, “It was a busy morning. I’ve been back and forth across the Capitol numerous times delivering messages, but it’s been fun.”
