Truck-pulls, alligator, kids’ rodeo and more at Great Northern Fair

It is a year for changes at the 2007 Great Northern Fair, according to Fair Manger Tim Solomon. Highlights of the July 18-22 family fun affair kick off Wednesday, July 18,with the Junior Rodeo, for kids under 18 years old. An Open Rodeo for pros and locals will fill the arena with cowboy fun Friday, July 20. Saturday, July 201will feature both local and a professional truck-pull competitions, which are new to the fair this year. But not all good things are new the famously attended Demolition Derby will again be held on Sunday, July 22. “There won’t be a big concert this year, because we are having the truck pulls,” Solomon said. “The local truckpull will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 21. Locals sign up to pull a sled, which transfers weight and gets heavier as you go. That evening will be the ProWest Truck Pull.” Bill Mangel of Havre is coordinating both truck-pull events to bring some rip-roaring engine action to fans. Other new attractions will include an alligator handler, which will take the place of the petting zoo, and there will be lots of live local entertainment on stage. The magic continues with a carnival, 4-H exhibits and livestock shows and sales, open class judging of quilts, hobbies, flowers, baked goods and more. Visit close to 40 commercial vendor booths inside and another 20 vendors outside, Solomon said. Lots of great fair food, a beer garden hosted by Havre Youth Baseball Association and an all-American country fair feel will greet you inside the gate. Look for more details coming in the middle of June through local media and the fair book.
