JOHN BAXTER CLARK obituary

John Baxter Clark, 59, of Havre died tuesday, June 12, 2007 after a long struggle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, June 16, at the Edwards Funeral Chapel, 500 Indiana in Chinook with Pastor Rowlie Hutton officiating. Cremation has taken place. Internment will take place in a private family service at a later date. John was born Dec. 26, 1947 in Denver, Colo., to William L. and Dorothy Jean (Godfrey) Clark. He was raised in and around the Denver area and graduated from South High School in Denver in 1966. He later served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Signalman 3rd Class. While in the navy he served aboard the USS Providence, CLG-6, and completed a cruise off the coast of Vietnam. He received the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Medal. After the navy he attended the Community College of Denver where he received a degree in criminal justice. He worked for four years at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office and later, for four years at the Aurora Police Department. He then became a master electrician in Colorado and later moved to Montana and received his journeyman’s license. He also held a journeyman license in Oregon. On Aug. 29, 1992 he married Vicki Hanson in Lakewood Colo. The couple eventually made their home in Havre. He is preceded in death by his parents. John is survived by wife, Vicki Clark of Havre; fivechildren, Chimaine (Troy) McGarrity of Aurora, Colo., William (Tara) Clark of San Diego, Calif., J.J. Clark of Colo., Robert (Connie) Goldhahn of Pocatello, Idaho and Andrew (Justina) Goldhahn of Okinawa; sister, Tanya Carr of Bellville, Kansas; three brothers, Randy Clark of New York, Dennis Clark of Denver, Colo., and Brandon Ryan of N.C.; and four grandchildren. The family has requested that memorials in John’s honor may be made to the Highline Sletten Cancer Center, C/O Northern Montana Healthcare Foundation, P. O. Box 1231, Havre, MT 59501 or to the charity of ones choice. Services are under the care of Edwards Funeral Home in Chinook.
