A friend described Robin Munis as an extremely talented singer who gave up gigs in Nashville to follow her husband to this small prairie city. “She was a beautiful person. Generous, wonderful, worked with the disabled for the state. She lit up a room when she came in and she had a voice that could make you drift away,” Mike Millheiser said Monday. Munis died doing what she loved. Last weekend, a bullet shattered a glass door and killed Munis, 40, as she sang in a country and classic rock band at an Old Chicago restaurant. Police said the bullet came from the parking lot. On Monday, they searched mountains and woods north and west of Cheyenne for Munis’ husband, David Munis, 36, a Wyoming Army National Guard employee and former Army sniper. Millheiser was a former band mate of Munis and said she was his best friend. He said he saw no indication that David Munis would ever be violent with his wife. But he also said that after Robin Munis two weeks ago moved out of the couple’s modest, split-level home in a semirural neighborhood on the west side of town, the breakup of David and Robin Munis took a turn for the worse. “It just got meaner,” he said. “Dave was an odd man,” he added. “He was a loner, a very quiet type of a person. You never knew; having been a sniper and everything, he had just a different air about him.” Millheiser leads a couple of bands. One is a blues group called the Hard Times Blues Band. The other is a country band called Blue Mountain, and Munis sang in that outfit. Millheiser said their band practiced often at the Munis home and that was how he got to know David Munis. He said Robin Munis confided in him that their different interests for example, David Munis enjoyed going on long hunting trips while his wife stayed home were ruining their marriage. A relative of David Munis doubted that he could have killed his wife. Rosalie Munis of Philipsburg, Mont., where David Munis grew up, said her nephew wasn’t a violent man. “I don’t know what I guess something must have happened, because I knew they were getting a divorce, and things were going well, as far as I know. Everything was set up, they sold their house,” Rosalie Munis said.
