John Oliver Brown, Sr., 59, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, in an airplane crash in the state of Washington.
Cremation has taken place and his memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28 at Van Orsdel United Methodist Church in Havre with Pastor Richard Rice officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the church following the services. John was born Nov. 26, 1947, in Jacksonville, Texas to John Burns and Wynne Mae (Moore) Brown. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1966, attended Tyler Junior College and the University of Texas in Austin where he received his bachelors degree in business. John began working in Montana with his father in the late 1960s in the oil and gas business. He met Sandra Lee Curfman and the couple wed Dec. 27, 1975, in Havre. Together they worked and lived in Havre raising their three children. John was a very friendly and caring person who enjoyed working with people. His love for fishing, flying, boating, water and snow skiing was contagious. He enjoyed sharing his passion for these activities with everyone. John liked traveling for work, but most of all loved to be with his family and friends. John’s beaming smile, sparkling eyes, and vivacious laugh touched the hearts of those around him. He is preceded in death by his father, John Burns Brown in 1983. John is survived by his wife, Sandra Brown; daughter, Dana Anne Brown of Havre; sons, John Oliver Brown, Jr. And Travis Austin Brown, both of Havre; mother, Wynne Mae Brown of Tyler, Texas; sister, Jan (Jack) Brady of Houston; brother, David (Jayne) Brown of Tyler; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions in John’s honor may be made to the Van Orsdel United Methodist Church. Local arrangements have been entrusted to Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
