MAX HENRY CLAWITER obituary BIG SANDY

Max Henry Clawiter, 91, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, evening at the Missouri River Manor of natural causes.

His viewing will be held at the church at 1 p.m. with his funeral service beginning 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Big Sandy Methodist Church with Pastor Marvin Eldridge officiating. Burial will follow at the Big Sandy Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the Big Sandy Historical Museum immediately after the services at the graveside. Max was born Dec. 6, 1915, in Big Sandy to Max and Adelia (Wohoski) Clawiter. He was raised and educated in Big Sandy. He worked on the family farm for many years until he purchased the farm from his family. He married Jean Porterfield, the couple later divorced. He married Grace Whetham Clixby in September of 1980 and they enjoyed 22 years of marriage. In November of 2004 Max married May Kafka Drga and they enjoyed the last three years together moving to Cambridge Court in Great Falls in April of 2006. Max accomplished many things during his lifetime. He served as a director on many boards including the Big Sandy Historical Museum, Lippard - Clawiter Foundation and The Choteau County Weed District just to name a few. Max enjoyed farming, traveling, woodworking, building electric cars, collecting stamps and coins, investments, playing the piano, listening to music, and enjoyed playing cards. He was especially intrigued with solar and renewable energy. Max was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Grace Clawiter in 2002; his brother, Floyd Clawiter; sisters, Charlotte Phillips, Mame Savik, Ella Kliener; and a nephew, Walter Gerson. He is survived by his wife, May Drga Clawiter of Great Falls; sisters, Erna Ramberg of Chinook and Albertine Moore of Great Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions in Max’s honor may be made to the Big Sandy Historical Museum, 87 Johannes Ave. W., Big Sandy, MT 59520. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
