Derik Kevin Froehlich, 31, of rural Bovey, Minn., died of natural causes at his home Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007.
Funeral services were held at the Peterson Funeral Chapel in Coleraine, Minn. On Saturday, Nov. 24. Derik was an organ donor, giving “the gift of life.” Derik was born to Laura Lee and Paul Froehlich on July 8, 1976, in Havre, Mont. He attended Sunnyside School through the fourth grade and moved with his family to Grand Rapids, Minn., in 1987. He attended Greenway Schools, graduating from Greenway High School in 1995. On Oct. 12, 1996, he married Jennifer Wienbeck in Coleraine, Minn.. They are the parents of three children. Derik enjoyed working on cars, driving big equipment, music, hunting, and supporting his children’s activities and sports always said, “My kids are my life.” He’d worked at various jobs since high school but primarily for BNSF in the diesel shop in Northtown and as a conductor in the Grand Rapids area. At the time of his death he was employed by Express Lube in Grand Rapids. He had suffered with ill health the past three years. Derik was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ed and Florence Froehlich; his maternal grandparents, LeRoy and Wanda Osterberg, and uncles Kevin and Erik Osterberg. Derik is survived by his wife, Jennifer; his children, Devon Scott, 13, Breanna, 11, and Hunter, 7; his mother, Laura Lee of Havre; father, Paul Froehlich of Great Falls; three older brothers, Christopher (Tina) Anderson and Scott Froehlich of Havre and Jeremy (Eve) Froehlich of Bemidji, Minn.; his stepfather Duane (Lisa) Mrnak of Grand Rapids, Minn., and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
