The Havre Ice Hawks and Great Falls Americans high school hockey teams have quite a rivalry going. And the last time the Americans played in the Havre Ice Dome, they captured the 2007 state championship by beating the Ice Hawks on their home ice. But this weekend at the ice dome, the Ice Hawks exacted some revenging by earning a tie and a win in a two-game series with the Americans. On Friday night, the Ice Hawks and Americans skated to a 4-4 tie in what was a physical and hard-fought game. Scoring was the name of the game on Friday night, but Havre goalie David Zentmire did manage to stop 21 shots despite facing a potent Great Falls offense. On offense, Havre got on the board in the first period when leading scorer Todd Roe netted and unassisted goal. The Ice Hawks also did plenty of damage in the second period as Brad Hanson scored on assists from Ryan Armstrong and Jarrett McLain. McLain and Armstrong linked up again later in the period to feed Mason Sheppard on a goal that put the Ice Hawks ahead. Havre's final goal came in the third period as Tyler Boyce scored on assists from Roe and Sheppard. As well as Havre played on Friday night, the Ice Hawks played even better on Saturday morning, as they beat the Americans 3-1. Zentmire was the story for Havre. The third-year goalie had an amazing 36 saves between the pipes for the Ice Hawks. Offensively, Havre got things going in the second period when Shane Kemmer scored and unassisted goal, and Roe scored on an assist from Boyce. Havre then put the game away when Boyce scored in the third period to make the final score 3-1. Havre won't be back in the ice dome until Jan. 4 when it faces Miles City for a doubleheader. The Ice Hawks are on the road this week in Canada.
