Former Montana football players Tuff Harris and Josh Swogger agreed to free agent deals after the NFL draft ended Sunday. Harris, a returner and cornerback, signed a two-year free agent deal with the Miami Dolphins while Swogger is headed to minicamp with the Kansas City Chiefs on May 11. Swogger, a Washington State transfer who passed for 2,685 yards and 17 touchdowns as Montana posted a 12-2 record last fall, said he also talked to the Jaguars and Vikings. “Everybody wants to get drafted, but I think this is a good situation,” he told the Missoulian in an interview from Youngstown, Ohio. Harris, of Colstrip, said he hadn’t had much contact with Miami prior to the draft. “It’s kind of out of the blue,” said Harris. “They weren’t on me as much as other teams. But regardless, it’s the shot I was waiting for.” The Dolphins didn’t take any defensive backs among their 10 draft picks. Harris said Miami called him late in the seventh round. Afterward he spoke with Miami secondary coach Mel Phillips. “They’d seen film, and they came and visited last spring,” Harris said. “They have good corners, but they’re all young nobody over two years, I guess. He (Phillips) said it’s a good opportunity, a good chance to compete.” Swogger hasn’t signed his contract yet. Harris’ contract is a two-year, nonguaranteed deal with an unspecified signing bonus.
