GLENDIVE
The week has started for the statewide Miss Montana Scholarship Program in Glendive. Young ladies vying for the opportunity to win the prized scholarship and Miss Montana title arrived Sunday morning with twenty one contestants in all. A whole week of dance rehearsals, speech and vocal practice begins the competition. The winner goes on to represent Montana in the Miss America pageant later. That is after serving for one year as an ambassador for Montana and conducting the school tour program around the state. Contestants are judged primarily on their talent proficiency. Some of the listed talent competitions this year starting Thursday night include gymnastic dance, Irish violin, cultural belly dance, and Christian sign language. The next eleven contestants Friday night will dazzle the crowd with bullwhip cracking, tap dance, violin, classical piano and singing. The best ten performances the first two nights will stand the best chance to make it to the Saturday night show and crowning of Miss Montana. Factors include offstage judged interviews, onstage questions, physical fitness in swimsuit and formal wear. So the road to Miss America goes through Glendive for some lucky young lady. The 1,000 seat Dawson County High School Auditorium will hold the event on June 14, 15, and 16. Ticket information is available on the official Miss Montana Website at www.missmontana. org.
