Hill County emergency services agencies reported this morning that for a three-day holiday weekend, their personnel had a comparatively quiet weekend. “It was actually relatively quiet, a typical weekend,” said Havre Police Chief George Tate. “ It was really great.” Hill County Sheriff Greg Szudera said there was more activity any time there are more people out it means more activity for law enforcement, he said but one of his deputies’ biggest jobs was enforcing the county-wide fire ban. “It appears that we were busy with informing people that no open burning was allowed,” both at Fresno Reservoir and in Beaver Creek Park, Szudera said. Szudera said he had a special detail of three deputies out over the weekend, and they were busy writing citations for minor-in-possession, driving under the influence of intoxicants and speeding violations. The sheriff’s office and the police department issued some seven DUIs and fifteen MIPs over the weekend, according to their logs. Law enforcement officers also issued about five assault citations, several disorderly conduct citations and about five endangering the welfare of children citations. Havre Fire Chief Dave Sheppard also said the weekend was relatively quiet for the Havre firefighters and ambulance crews. “It wasn’t extremely busy, not more than any other weekend, really,” he said. Sheppard said firefighters responded to one fire call when a power line broke and was arcing; NorthWestern Energy responded to fix that, he said. The emergency crews also responded to nine medical calls from Friday through Monday. “I don’t see any (fire department responses) to auto accidents, so that was good,” he added.
