Applications for Montana’s upcoming bison hunt became available online Thursday and will be available starting Friday from Fish, Wildlife and Parks and most license providers, the state agency said. The state Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission recently approved 18 either-sex bison licenses and up to 54 cow/calf licenses for use near Gardiner; and 26 either-sex bison licenses and up to 46 cow/calf licenses for use near West Yellowstone. Sixteen either-sex bison hunting licenses will be offered to Montana’s Indian tribes in accordance with state law. Hunts would take place over three time periods; Nov. 15-Dec. 31; Jan. 1-22; and Jan. 23-Feb. 15. Prospective hunters must apply for an either-sex bison license, which will be awarded in a special drawing. Applicants may al so apply for the opportunity to obtain a cow/calf license by having their names p l a c e d o n a r o s t e r o f unsuccessful either-sex bison license applicants.
