Jose Guevara, age 78, died at the Miles City Veterans Nursing home on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007.
He had lived in Miles City for three years having moved here from Havre to be near his daughter and her family A memorial service will be held today at 3:30 p.m. at the Stevenson and Sons Chapel at 1717 Main Street in Miles City with burial at the Miles City Veteran’s Cemetery. A reception will follow at the home of Nancy and Bill Abel at 71 Morningstar Lane. Should friends wish, memorials may be made to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com. Jose was born in Brownsville, Texas, on Nov. 2, 1929. His parents were Narciso and Elenor Guevara. He spent his childhood in Brownsville. In 1951 Jose joined the United States Air Force. His career included assignments in Iceland, Spain and points all across the United States. He retired from the Air Force in 1974. In 1954 he met Mary Patricia Maynard at a dance at the Legion Club in Saint Albans, Vermont. They married in Nov. 27, 1954 in Saint Albans, and eventually settled in Havre, where he lived for thirty years. After retiring from the Air Force, he sold cars and managed the Elks Club in Havre. Jose was a member of the Elks, Eagles, VFW, and Air Force Sergeants. Jose was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Patricia in 2004; his son, Steven Guevara in 2001; a daughter, Elena Crilly in 2005; his parents and a brother. He is survived by Elisa (Don) Westelin of Westminster, Calif.; Myra Due of Bozeman, and Nancy (Bill) Abel of Miles City; four grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial may be sent to the Northern Montana Hospital Foundation to purchase a memorial tree in Jose’s name or a charity of one’s choice.
