Former Lodge Pole Minister Leonard John Anderson died in New Castle, Wyo., on Dec. 9, 2007, of natural causes.
Wake services will be 7 p. m. Thursday at the Medicine Bear Lodge in Lodge Pole. Funeral services will be 11 a. m. Friday at the lodge with burial in the Lodge Pole Cemetery. Leonard was born in Forest Grove, Minn. On August 7, 1918, to Carl and Georgianna Anderson. Leonard was honorably discharged from the US Army after his service during WWII. He graduated from North Central Bible Institute in Minnesota with a degree in theology. Leonard married Hazel Bakken on May 30, 1949. They lived in Minnesota, South Dakota and finally Montana, where he built his church in Lodge Pole. Leonard’s missionary work was always at the forefront of his life. On Thanksgiving Day in 2004, he suffered a severe stroke and was moved to New Castle in 2005. There he spent the last two and half years of his life as a resident at the Weston County Manor Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Georgianna; wife, Hazel; daughter, Sharleen; son, Keith; two sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his brother, Gilbert of Motley, Minn.; sons, Steven of Red Lodge, Timothy and Daniel, both of Roundup, David (Roxanne) of Rapid City, S.D., Jonathan (Janet) of New Castle and Wayne (Denise) of New Castle; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
