The family of Mickie Brandsma, 82, sadly announces her death on Friday, Nov. 30, 2007.
She was surrounded by loved ones as she passed on to join her beloved husband Maynard who died in February 1999. A private memorial service for immediate family will be held Dec. 21 at the Myers farm in Big Sandy, Mont., with interment at Big Sandy Cemetery. Mickie was born on June 11, 1925, on a farm near Big Sandy. She graduated from high school at Havre, Mont., with the class of 1942. Seeking adventure, she moved to southern California at age 22. She worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in Los Angeles for many years. She also worked on the side as a medical records transcriber. While doing this work she met Maynard Brandsma, M.D., who was so impressed with her that they were married in 1965. Mickie and Maynard moved to the new community of Mission Viejo in 1970. While Maynard set up his medical practice, Mickie earned her real estate license. In 1973 she began selling homes and later earned her broker’s license. She loved her 34 year career in real estate and the many wonderful friends she made in the business. Mickie and Maynard also shared 34 years of marriage. She enjoyed tennis and sharing in Maynard’s many interests including hunting, training his beloved hunting dogs, fishing, gourmet cooking, bee keeping and traveling. When Maynard became ill, Mickie lovingly cared for him at home. Mickie was the epitome of graciousness. She always saw the best in everyone. Although she suffered many hospitalizations over recent years, Mickie repeatedly overcame her difficulties. She was a tough survivor and fiercely independent until the day she died. She was an angel on a temporary assignment to earth. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
