Fay Louise (Meyer) Wolfe, 66, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at the Liberty Medical Center in Chester of cancer.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a. m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chester. A fellowship luncheon will follow in the church basement. Fay was born Oct. 7, 1941, in Havre. She was the youngest and only daughter of two children born to Florence Inez Soderholm and Donald G. Meyer. Fay grew up in the Inverness and Rudyard communities, where she received her formal education. Following graduation from Rudyard High School in 1959, she continued her schooling at Montana State University in Bozeman. Fay married Roger A. Wolfe on May 28, 1960, at Inverness. They lived in Bozeman where Roger attended college, then they moved to the Wolfe farm south of Chester in 1963. In those early years Fay enjoyed her life as a homemaker and mother of four. In the late 1970’s she took a job as postal clerk at the Chester post office. In 1984 Fay and a friend purchased a local retail store called Fashion Focus, which specialized in the sale of women’s apparel. Fay enjoyed the challenge of owning and operating a small town business. Her pleasant personality, love of people, and willingness to cater to her growing clientele made this a successful venture. She ran the store until 1992, then sold it. Roger and Fay moved to the Flathead Valley and built a home on the Whitefish Golf Course. They thoroughly enjoyed their eight years in Whitefish, but they also enjoyed traveling south in the winter months, so they eventually sold their home. During their travels they fell in love with the community and climate of Mesquite, Nevada, so they purchased a winter home there in 2003. In addition they continued to summer and farm near Chester. Fay was diagnosed with cancer in March 2007, and she maintained a strong fight with the disease until her death this week. Fay was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Inverness. During her early years in Chester she was active in Lionettes and Jaycees, especially the “Junior Miss” program. She also held memberships at the Marias Valley Golf Course in Shelby and the Whitefish Country Club. In her younger days Fay played the clarinet and the piano. Her hobbies over the years included golfing, bowling, skiing, dancing, and playing Bridge. During her quiet time at home she enjoyed painting landscapes. Fay was an immaculate homemaker and an excellent cook. Some of her favorite family culinary delights were her French pancakes, cinnamon rolls, potato salads, and Roquefort dressings. Fay could best be described as a “classy lady.” She always looked good and handled herself well. She was a very social and congenial person who developed many long term friendships wherever she went. Her friends were more than simple acquaintances; they were sincere friends who loved and respected her. She will truly be missed by many. Fay was preceded in death by her father in 2000 and her mother in 2001. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Roger Wolfe of Chester; children, Nanci Stocker of Spokane, Wash., Don (Barb) Wolfe of Chester, Russ Wolfe of Spokane, Wash., and Justin (Tiffany) Wolfe of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Hallie Jo, Colton, Nikole, Erin, MacKenzie, and Austin; brother, Darryl (Gail) Meyer of Polson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Cremation and arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester.
