The Rocky Boy Invitational probably just should have been called the Danreuther Invitational with the way that Kourtney and Kyle Danreuther of Big Sandy, distanced themselves from the competition Monday at the Havre Middle School track. Kourtney Danreuther was spectacular as usual for the Big Sandy girls, winning all five events that she entered, including the 100 and 200- meter dashes, the 110 and 300 hurdles, as well as the long jump. Desirae O’Neil helped the Pioneers cause by winning the high jump, as did Amber Amsbaugh with a thirdplace finish in the triple jump and a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash. Laci Keller also finished fourth in the discus. However, despite getting 50 points from Kourtney Danreuther, Geraldine still managed to edge out the Pioneers for the team title with a point total of 94 compared to 76 for Big Sandy. Geraldine used a total team effort to outscore the Pioneers, highlighted by the stellar performance of Kelsee Clark, who won both the shot put and the discus to go along with a fourthplace finish in the javelin. Chester/J-I’s Jessica VanDyke won the 3200-meter run and finished second in the 800-meter run and fourth in the shot put to help the Hawks earn a third-place finish. C/J-I also got a solid effort from Brittney Kolstad, who came in second in both hurdle events and third in the 200. Hannah Pimley and Molly Brown also notched second and fourth-place finishes, respectively for the Hawks in the long jump. On the boys side of the Rocky Boy meet, Big Sandy overwhelmed the rest of the field, amassing 121 points to finish in first, well-ahead of Augusta, who finished with 74 points. Senior Kyle Danreuther won three of the four events he entered, capturing both the 110 and 300 hurdles as well as the 100-meter dash. He also finished second in the 200-meter dash to teammate Lawrence Jappe. In addition to winning the 200, Jappe finished second in the 100-meter dash and the javelin. Darin Ray and Casten Heppner also won multiple events for the Pioneers. Ray won the 800 and 1600- meter runs while Heppner won the shot put and discus. Kyle Danreuther, Jappe, Ray and Patrick Louvar combined to win the 400-meter relay for the Pioneers. Josh Beaudry, who has had a solid all-around season so far, helped the North Star Knights to a respectable third-place finish in the meet by winning the long jump and finishing second in the triple jump. Beaudry also spearheaded the Knight’s first-place finish in the 1600- meter relay. North Star’s relay team also included Cody Jurenka, Adam Chvilicek and Zack Rambo. C/J-I ended up in fourth place thanks in large part to Tyler Han, who came in second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 110 hurdles. Han also finished fifth in the javelin. John Fauerbach also had a solid day for C/J-I finishing second in the 800 and fifth in the 1600. Next up on the District 9C track and field circuit is the Chinook Invitational Saturday morning at the HMS track.
