The Havre Pride Task Force is leading the way for the annual Spring Havre Pride Campaign which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 28. The project is a community wide effort to clean up “our town,” said Debbie Vandeberg, director of the Harve Area Chamber of Commerce. “The goal of the Havre Pride Task Force (a committee of the Chamber headed by Kim Cripps of Havre Montana Realty) is to first, get the community members working together to clean up our town and second to educate people on the subject of litter and community pride.” Prizes for the most trash and other categories will be awarded this year. A pancake breakfast fund-raiser will be sponsored by the local Shriners from 7 a. m. to 1 p.m. at the VFW Club. Proceeds from the feed will go toward programs at the Shrine Crippled Children’s Hospital. To take part in Havre Pride, business owners and managers are asked to wipe down, sweep out and clean up the area around their stores Saturday, while community volunteers cover the city picking up loose trash that collected through the winter along area streets and highways. All those planning to participate are encouraged to register the area they plan to clean by calling Kim Cripps at 265-4353. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Most trash collected by an individual (prize sponsored by Northern Montana Hospital and Stockman Bank), most trash collected by a group of adults/organization (sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank, IGA Fresh Foods and 5th Ave. Grind, most trash collected by a group of youth (sponsored by Pizza Hut and Dairy Queen), most outrageous piece of trash brought in by an individual (sponsored by Independence Bank). Additional prizes are sponsored by Northwestern Energy and Heritage Bank. The trash redemption sites for the spring clean up will be located at 5th Avenue beside the Fire Department and in Highland Park at Kum & Go. Trash bags may be picked up the morning of Havre Pride starting at 9 a. m. at the both dump sites. Trash redeemed must only include street trash. Household trash will not be accepted. Street trash is defined as trash that is picked up from city streets and alleys, as well as from city parks. “Show your community pride and follow the great example set forth by Mayor Bob Rice, his crews and the state highway crews,” said Vandeberg. “Join the Chamber and your neighbors and take time to take pride in Havre, because Havre belongs to all of us.”
