He grew up in the Fort Belknap and Harlem area and attended school in Harlem. One day, the family encouraged him to assist them in hoeing sugar beets. After some time he made the statement that he would never again lift anything heavier than a pencil. He returned to school and graduated from Harlem High School in 1970 then Haskell University with a bachelor’s degree in business. After college, he worked for the Native American Alliance serving as the executive director in Butte, Missoula, Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy. His main responsibilities were in the areas of finance and grant writing. He was married once and fathered five children. The couple later divorced. All who knew him felt that he was very accepting of those around him, always willing to do whatever was necessary to assist another in their circumstances. He played guitar and sang for all who would listen. He also had a great love for football, especially the blue and silver of the Dallas Cowboys, catching as many games as possible then waiting for the new season to begin. Earthboy; brother, James “Gooch” Earthboy; sister, Mary Jane Earthboy; maternal grandparents, Jennie Birdtail and Ben Takes the Bow; paternal grandparents, William H. and Mamie (Gunn) Walls.
