David Snell, 72 years, retired Army and miner, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at the Phillips County Hospital of natural causes.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Red Whip Community Center. There will be a visitation starting at 1 p.m. at the center. Burial will be in the Harlem Cemetery with Military Honors. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ray Snell and Pete Snell. He is survived by his brother, George (Wilma) Snell of Hamilton; long time companion, Carolyn Ferrell of Malta. David was born Oct. 15, 1934, in Fort Belknap, the son of William “Babe” and Jane (Ortley) Snell. He was raised and educated at Harlem and after high school he joined the Army in 1954. He served in Korea, and two tours in Vietnam, and many other places. He retired Jan. 31, 1976, after a total of more than 22 years. He married Norma Jean Caton in 1974 and she passed away in 1994. David worked at the gold mines at Zortman and Landusky. After he retired from the mines he moved to Malta where he has lived every since. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
