Hi-Line Lanes ready for the start of league bowling

Marlene Pizzini For the Havre Daily News pixie@mtintouch.net

Since I’m here, it must be that time of the year ! Ken will be running a Labor Day special from 1-6 .pm. A game of bowling will cost $1 and so will a hot dog and small drink. The new hours for Hi-Line Lanes will be open at 3 p.m and close whenever. In other words, as long as there are people bowling, the lanes will stay open. If you have not been out to the lanes in the last year it would be hard to imagine the changes. A lot of work has been done with more improvements to be made in the very near future. The entire building is a non-smoking establishment. If you heard the rumor that 14 new lanes were installed, someone told you a late April fool’s joke. The first 14 alleys were sanded off and resurfaced with an Astro Lane finish. Hi-Line Lanes is now owned by Ron Tompt. Ken Brubaker will be overseeing the operations along with working in the pro-shop. USBC raised card prices over a year ago by $2. Our local organizations did not raise ours last season because of the sudden start. The men have raised their price form $15 to $20 and the women have gone from $15 to $17. You will also not find your last season’s average on your new card, mainly due to increase of postage costs. No I didn’t make that up, it came from USBC. All of the leagues will welcome new bowlers whether you are an old pro or a newcomer. Singles, couples, or entire teams are needed on all leagues. We will all try our hardest to make sure you have the chance to participate in the sport. The new bowling season starts next week with the women taking to the lanes Tuesday night. The league begins bowling at 7 p.m. and consists of four women teams. There is still time and room to sign up. If interested, call me at 265-4664. The Wednesday night men start their season Sept. 12. The league consists of five-man teams. Shawn Mariani is the secretary and can be reached at 265-4718. Thursday AM begins Sept. 6 at 9:30 a. m. We are three women teams and are usually done bowling by 11a.m. If interested, give me a call. Thursday Mixers will also start Sept. 6. The league consists of two women and two men teams and starts bowling at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Lorna Bjerga at 265-9655 or attend their league meeting Thursday night at 7 p.m. Sunday Mixed starts their season Sept. 9. This is a co-ed league, two men, two women; three men, one woman; or three women, one man who start bowling at 7 p.m. Contact Mike Hamilton at 265-1638 or 265-2626. Mike is also the secretary for the Monday Straightaway Mixed. This is a scratch league consisting of threeplayer teams that bowl four games. The league begins at 7 p.m. The league is fast paced, competitive, and a good one to be on to hone your bowling skills. If you are unable to reach any of the above call me at 265-4664 or Hi-Line Lanes at 265-5885. We will be happy to forward your names to the secretaries. Rock-N-Bowl will start Friday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. Bowling will run until 10 p.m. at a cost of $5 for all age groups. Jackpot will begin Saturday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. The cost will be $17 and I was told there is plenty of pot money to start the season off right. The Havre Youth will begin later and at this time no start up date has been set. When the time nears, you will be notified. Bowling can be enjoyed by all. Why not join a league, we do have fun, it is very good excerise, and it is a good place to meet new people and see old friends. I look forward to writing about you and will be back after the leagues get started.
