Ivan Chester Windy Boy, whose Indian Name is; "Si-yAh-Ko- Tah-t," meaning "Sun Rising," 55, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, on U.S. Highway 87 victim of a vehicular accident.
His wake service began at 7 p. m. Oct. 12, with his funeral service at 10 a.m. Oct. 13, at the Rocky Boy Lutheran Church with Tribal Elders officiating. Burial will follow at the Rocky Boy Cemetery. Ivan Chester Windy Boy was born in Havre on Jan. 21, 1952, to Sam Windy Boy Sr. And Lucille Little Sun- Windy Boy. Chester was raised in Rocky Boy and went to school in Flandreau, S.D. He enlisted in the United States Army during Vietnam he was honorably discharged in 1972 as a private. He married Doris Stump in Rocky Boy in 1980. The couple moved to Mobridge, S.D where Ivan attended bible college. After he completed school in 1982, they returned to Montana and made their home in Rocky Boy. Chester worked in heavy construction most of his life where he flourished as a heavy equipment operator. He also worked in the Waste Water Department and was State Certified in this field. Chester worked various jobs as a policeman and ambulance driver. He utilized his cultural knowledge in a good way, by participated in most ceremonial practices of the Chippewa Cree, where he would help others in the traditional way. Chester was a free spirit and he enjoyed the great outdoors. He loved his children and grandchildren. He always helped those who asked and never turned anyone away. He was kind and always had a kind word to say to anyone he encountered. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Lucille; a brother, George; and a sister, Sella. Ivan is survived by his wife, Doris Stump Windy Boy of Rocky Boy; daughters, Rachael Windy Boy of Rocky Boy, Melissa (Neil Montano) Stump of Havre and Sarah (Dan) Windy Boy-Jones of Rocky Boy; son, Warren Chester (Mandy) Windy Boy of Rocky Boy; brothers, Sam Vernon Windy Boy of Rocky Boy, William Paul Windy Boy of Lawrence, Kan., Kevin Hugh Windy Boy of Austin, Texas, Arthur Kim (Kathleen) Windy Boy of Havre; sisters: Louise (Robert) Stump of Rocky Boy, Mary Windy Boy (Kenneth LaFromboise) of Rocky Boy, Wendy (Dominic) Bradley of Box Elder and Elaine (Fredrick) Coffee of Rocky Boy; nine grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and life long friends. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
