GERALD THOMAS MAINE obituary FORT BELKNAP

Gerald Thomas Maine, 64, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, of natural causes in Fort Belknap.

A wake and rosary service is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at the Red Whip Center with Father Robert Erickson officiating. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Red Whip Center with Father Robert Erickson as celebrant. The committal rite, following the mass, will be held at the Hi-Way Cemetery on Fort Belknap. There will be a fellowship reception at the Red Whip Center following the committal service. Gerald “Johnny” was born Nov. 17, 1942, at the Fort Belknap Agency to Clarkson and Theresa (Azure) Maine. Johnny grew up in and around Fort Belknap and Harlem. He attended school at Fort Belknap. After his school years, he worked for the Fort Belknap College under the Greenthumb and Work experience programs. He also worked as a fire fighter during the summer months for many years. He also enjoyed playing bingo, walking, visiting with friends and family, going to powwows and listening to powwow music. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theresa Azure and Clarkson Maine; wife, Mercalene Arkinson; brother, Joseph Maine; sisters, Rose Yellow Robe, Ruby Plain Feather and Sylvia Kucate; nephews, Richard Small, Michael “Bruce” Yellow Robe and Neil Weigand; niece, Karen Clark; and grandson, Doug “Dougie” Snell, Jr. Johnny is survived by his stepdaughters, LaWanda and Heidi Arkinson of Rocky Boy; sisters, Stella Maine and Erma Grey Bear of Fort Belknap; brother, Byron Yellow Robe of Fort Belknap; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Chinook.
