Three Western governors are featured in television ads meant to push Congress to do something about global warming. Democratic Gov. Brian Schweitzer of Montana and Republican Govs. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California and Jon Huntsman of Utah are appearing in an ad that is scheduled to run in 17 markets targeted to key members of Congress. The advocacy group Environmental Defense is paying for the ads. The ad features each governor in his home state Schwarzenegger in a forest, Schweitzer by a river wearing a fishing vest, and Huntsman standing on salt flats. "In state after state we are taking action, now it's time for Congress to act by capping greenhouse gas emissions," the governors said. Schweitzer, who traveled to Washington earlier this year to testify on the issue, said Thursday that the governors are frustrated with the pace of efforts to curb global warming in Washington. He said it would be easier for states to take action if there were a federal framework to reduce the emissions. "If Congress would give us some certainty ... that's what we are really lacking right now," he said. Legislation is pending in the Senate that would impose mandatory cuts in greenhouse gases from power plants, industrial facilities and transportation.
