George Franklin Patera, 75, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, of natural causes at a local care facility.
Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service and burial will take place at a later date. George was born Jan. 11, 1934, to Joseph and Barbara (Sukorski) Patera in Havre. He grew up in and around Havre and attended school in the Havre area. In May 1952 he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force. While in the Air Force, he served in a Strategic Air Command Squadron in California. He was discharged in 1956 from Malmstrom Air Force Base. In 1964, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and was discharged that same year under honorable conditions. George never married, but he had many nieces and nephews that he cherished. He also had many friends he enjoyed spending time with. George worked for the railroad after he left the Army, retiring in 2002. After retiring he rode his bicycle around “the Circuit” which included stops at the VFW Club, Eagles Club and the Shanty Bar; he enjoyed a good game of pool and exchanging stories with his friends. He also liked to repair bicycles for others and to collect, repair and give away bicycles. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Barbara Patera; brothers, Anton, Otto, Milo, Joe and John Patera; and sister, Beatrice Patera. He is survived by 15 nieces and nephews and numerous great- nieces and nephews. Memorials in George’s honor may be given to the charity of one’s choice. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Chinook.
